The SYLFF scholarship offers an exceptional opportunity for talented graduate and PhD students at the University of Oslo (UiO) to obtain financial support for research activities abroad.
The program aims to strengthen international dialogue and cross-cultural understanding by enabling students in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Law, Education, and Theology to participate actively in global academic environments.
Who Can Apply?
The SYLFF scholarship is open to postgraduate students who have demonstrated strong academic performance and a commitment to social engagement and leadership.
While PhD candidates are given priority, highly qualified Master’s students are also encouraged to apply.
Applicants must clearly explain how their planned research stay abroad will:

Contribute to their academic development

Strengthen their ongoing thesis or doctoral project

Facilitate meaningful collaboration with international partners
What Does the Scholarship Cover?
Funding is available for:

PhD candidates: Research stays abroad directly connected to their doctoral projects

Master’s students: Fieldwork, data collection, or participation in relevant international academic events that support thesis completion
Please note that courses at foreign institutions are not eligible for funding.
Scholarships are awarded for expenses up to NOK 50,000.
How to Apply
To be considered for a SYLFF scholarship, applicants must submit:

A motivation letter

An updated CV demonstrating academic and/or leadership experience

A brief description of the research project

A detailed budget (up to NOK 50,000)
In addition, the following documentation must be included:

A recommendation letter from the supervisor

Confirmation of admission, invitation, or scheduled visit from the host institution (if applicable)
All documents must be submitted in English, and complete applications must be received by December 1, 2025.
